Montana - Days 4 & 5 - "Going-To-The-Sun Road"

Starting our drive (53 miles each way) along the "Going-To-The-Sun Road." This is St. Mary Lake.

Goose Island on St. Mary Lake. There are kayakers in front of the island.

This picture shows the road that we've been driving on. It goes straight through the park and over the Continental Divide.

We will eventually make it to the valley below. You can see McDonald Creek.

I took this while driving. I just couldn't get over how incredible the scenery was.

SO glad we didn't have to canoe this!!!

Lake McDonald.

McDonald Falls.

Tried to get that waterfall in the background.

One of the tunnels we went through.

The Continental Divide!

...but not as long as that one in the distance. It is almost 500 feet in length!

Paul stopped... I jumped out and took this picture while on the road...

I'm hanging outside the window when I took this picture. Just over the wall is Mt. Gould which sits above Grinnell Glacier.

Notice this waterfall cutting through the snow... I love this shot!

Goose Island. It looks so small compared to everything else around it.

Hiking... and swatting a ton of mosquitos!

Don't jump!

There wasn't a lot of space here... obviously!

Too bad we didn't get to see the real thing!

St. Mary Lake.

So I'm standing on this cliff over the lake. As I lose my balance, Paul snaps the photo. You can see my "lightning quick" reflexes! Ha!

Just below Logan's Pass (Continental Divide).

Just another waterfall flowing into McDonald Creek.

We stopped at these falls.

So I'm working on my posture here... ha!

Money shot!

My mom's favorite flowers.

I'm sure I'm breaking a few laws here...

Paul is driving now, and we're making our return back up the "Going-To-The-Sun Road."

... then I turned around and took this picture of the waterfall looking down.

The Triple Arches.

Make a wish!

We're now at the southeast corner of the park in a campground called Two Medicine.

It's kinda marshy here... so now we know why they have so many mosquitos!

This is pretty... but if you look closely you can see the amount of bugs!

Sunset on Rising Wolf Mountain. We did have a deer walk through our campsite while we were making dinner.

Paul would probably out-run the bear and leave me to fight it.

East Flattop Mountain behind St. Mary Lake.

Jackson Glacier.

There was a fire here in 1967.

Another great pic of McDonald Creek.

People were swimming here (this is just below the falls).

More of McDonald Falls.

This shot took 3 times to get. This mountain is called Heaven's Peak.

Just a really long waterfall...

One of the many red tour buses along the road.

Close up of the Triple Arches.

I love this shot of the valley.

They were doing construction so the road was down to 1 lane. Notice how packed the snow wall is.

Hiking around Two Medicine.

Two Medicine Lake.

I was trying to get the light through the trees.

Walking away from Two Medicine Lake back to our campsite.

Great Falls International Airport.

Regan vs. The Bear. I think I could take him!
